Responses to a 1980 survey of eminent astronomers and astrophysicists selected by project advisors to the American Institute of Physics (AIP) Center for History of Physics. Recipients were asked to discuss their decision to enter astronomy; their work during the Second World War; their professional work outside astronomy; the fields in which they have been most active, the advances in both those fields and others, and their own accomplishments and satisfactions; sources of funding; their perceptions of public attitudes; the influence of religion or philosophy on their work as astronomers; and their opinions on questions relating to the Big Bang Theory, cosmology, up-coming important developments, and the search for extraterrestrial intelligence.
